Good food for the price. Here comes the but. I neglected writing this review earlier as I spent the remain night and parts of the morning with my face all too near the pristine waters of my local toilet. All I can say is if you do choose to take your life in your own hands do not get the veal for it will seal your fate.

I cannot believe that I only found this fantastic restaurant three years ago. I was missing out on so much! Still can't ever decide between the amazing lemon chicken and the always delicious seafood pasta. But I am always anxious to go back again for either one. The best Italian food in Michigan. Not very expensive and always so friendly! Wonderful dining experience.

We had the lasagna and the chicken cacciatore. Both were only okay, we have definitely had better. The side salads that came with the entrées were very simple, basically just cheap iceberg lettuce and dressing. Each of the entrées also came with a large piece of bread. This was our first time having food from here and didn't know what to expect. At $18 each we were really surprised by the prices, and our entree choices were some of the lesser expensive on the menu. The veal entrées are $22 - $24. The salmon is $22. Simple whole wheat pasta with vegetables is $20. We can now say we've tried Pasta Fagioli but we won't be back.

FANTASTIC! Not exactly the hippest place around but perhaps the most underrated food in all of Bloomfield Hills. Between the salad, the ravioli, the angel hair pasta, or the chicken piccata with artichokes, I could eat at this restaurant every day for the rest of my life. Try it, you will not be disappointed!

Pasta Fagioli is a great little spot for some quality Italian cuisine. I think they serve up some of the better pasta around. I don't go out for Italian food that often, but when I crave Italian it is usually Pasta Fagioli. The place is tiny, so if you come on the weekend you will have to wait for sure. If you are my age (25), you will definitely be the youngest person in the restaurant by far! Definitely an older crowd. They don't have much of an ambiance, but they do have BYOB! I love places that will let you BYOB because it cuts the cost of your meal in half. Its a really nice option to have. There are two dishes that I always get here: Spaghetti del medici, and the ravioli stuffed with spinach and ricotta with palomino sauce. Mmmm I love their palomino sauce! The spaghetti del medici is a thin pasta with giant shrimp and a light tomato sauce. Really delicious and big enough for 2 people. The ravioli is hand made, but the sauce really makes it. The best part of the meal though, is their house salad! The dressing they use is incredible. I could drink it, or just spread it on everything I eat...I am not sure what kind of dressing you would call it, I guess something close to creamy caesar but SO much better. The service is whatever, I don't really remember it either way. I do remember one server being very very patient with my whole family when we came once for a big dinner there. Let me tell you, they are Jewish, it was passover, and for some reason we decided to go eat at pasta fagioli...don't ask me why we went to a pasta place on passover! But, the server was super patient and sweet to my grandparents and extremely picky cousins. So I have to give them props on that! They even put matzo out on the table with the bread. I guess that is what you get at an Italian place in Bloomfield Hills :). Either way, I would definitely check this place out. Don't expect much on ambiance, but do expect fabulous food!

Best Veal Palomino I have had. The Gnocchi is excellent as well. If I lived closer, I would visit often.

When visiting a restaurant its not always about food! We were there today and our hostess looked very distressed and when my friend nudged her for why she looked so upset. She was struggling to hold back her tears. Our hostess after some prodding hesitatingly shared what she had been going thru. Her house had been robbed that morning and she said that she rather be home waiting for the cops to follow up on things stolen. But the owners/managers insisted she show up at the restaurant and when she did - in her jeans and not her usual dress code - the owners read her the riot act for that. Lack of empathy or concern for employees hardly appetizing! I recently changed jobs and am now in the area and this was my first time to this restaurant. I would be hard pressed to go back there.

I visited Pasta Fagioli between a private dance lesson at the nearby Fred Astaire Dance Studio and a group lesson in Bachata later that evening. Despite my better judgment, I was craving a bowl of pasta. (I probably shouldn't eat so much in the way of carbs.) The menu looked promising enough if not a bit behind the times. I felt like it was a time warp back to the 1990's with a lot of ingredients, sauces, and dishes that seemed to come into vogue in that decade: portobello mushrooms, penne, puttanesca, angel hair pasta. I suppose it's not surprising that their wall of accolades includes reviews from the early 2000's including being one of Detroit's best restaurants of 2003, according to the Detroit Free Press. The restaurant seemed like a place that was forgotten by modern social media like Yelp*. There's nothing really wrong with that, I think, though. I got one of the specials. It was an angel hair pasta with shrimp, lobster claw meat, fresh tomato, fresh garlic, and fresh basil with a healthy topping of extra fresh basil chiffonade over the top of everything. What came was a gutbustingly large portion of food. Yeah. I felt the stomach stretch uncomfortably. Ouch. Anyway, it was good. I loved the simplicity of that Italian trinity of tomato, basil, and garlic. The shrimp was cooked decently enough without overcooking it. It's a bit too bad that the chiffonade of basil was like my ham-handed attempts at the technique. Sure, it looked like it was cut into strips, but it wasn't cut cleanly. I think both the Pasta Fagioli kitchen staff and I either need to work on our knife skills or to sharpen our knives. In any case, it was a tasty dish even though I felt I was back in the 1990's. Service was pretty friendly and attentive. I felt it was a little much to pay $29 for what I got, but it was still good.

I agree with other reviewers. Fine food in a local convenient place. Friendly quick service. But NO WINE! Thats tough to take in an Italian restaurant. Used to be able to BYO, but some jerk turned them in. Boo!

Great and friendly staff. Try the foccia bread! A nice change from chain places. Family friendly. I'll be back!

Simply a classic. It's a small place, very homey, many regulars. They are not fancy and they are not cheap. However, they serve quality, tasty, reliable cuisine every time you go. I recommend the veal palamino- it's one of my favorite veal dishes anywhere. Also, they hand make all the lasagna noodles and their seafood pasta (it's on the chalk board) is pretty good. If low carb is what you want the chicken fancese is made with an egg-white wash. They have an amazing house salad with a homemade spicy mustard caesar dressing. Lastly, their appetizer eggplant rollantini is to die for.

Had dinner here the other night. The ravioli were tender. The palomino sauce too watery to be truly tasty. My companion had the special-angel hair pasta with lobster and shrimp in an olive oil chopped tomato basil sauce. Good except the lobster was tough. The interior is clean but could use some repairs. The staff was attentive and helpful. The bread basket was warm but the crust was soft. Served crisp olive oil, basil, garlic and tomato flavored warm thin bread also which was tasty. The caesar salad was dressed/tossed well but no croutons.

So glad we finally tried Pasta Fagoli and the reviews are right! We ordered this takeout on a Friday and it was ready in 20 minutes. We had the spinach/ricotta ravioli and went with the palamino sauce. Outstanding! We only ordered 1 meal and it was plenty for the two of us-about 8 large stuffed ravioli's each. The meal comes with a side salad but we also ordered and enjoyed the Caesar with the tasty dressing. Definitely worth trying this place and next time we will dine in and take advantage of the byow.

Terrible service. Our waiter was sweating over our food. Ordered dessert and coffee. They bring dessert but the coffee was not ready so we had to wait. I spoke to the owner and said that we preferred to receive both together, the service was awful etc.... Still charged for dessert and coffee. Lost my business.

One of our favorite Italian Restaurants to go to - homey and classic Italian. I always get the seafood with linguini (usually on the special board) and my wife gets the pasta bolognese. The bread is incredible and their soups are to die for. A bit on the pricey side but you can usually get a coupon thingie from restaurant.com (although no Friday or Saturday nights with that) for half off. Carry out is always an option as there are only like 10 tables. Highly recommended!

I have been patronizing this restaurant for over 5 years. Last week I had the worst meal I had ever had there. Initially, they operated as if they had an BYO wine license. They didn't, and they don't. This took away a big attraction. to going there. They have a White Fish on their menu for $18.00. For the past 4 visits, my wife asked for the Whitefish, and everytime they said they were out......and coincidentally they have a special fish dish for $27.50. I think the standard line is that they are out of the regular menu item to upsell you into the special. We usually get Bruschetta as an appetizer before the salad. It came after the salad and was cold. Another waiter in the restaurant was actually soliciting patrons for another job because he had a math and physics degree and was trying to find anything else. How reassuring that he likes where he works and is focused on doing a good job. They need to get their on-premise license, or I think they are on the decline and potentially not long for this market.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
